P-47 Thunderbolt
George Bostwick was one of the few allied pilots to shoot down a twin engined Me.262 jet fighter while flying a piston-engined P-47. His P-47M-1-RE Thunderbolt had the nickname "Ugly Duckling" and a striking paint scheme. The M series of the P-47 Thunderbolt had a new, more powerful engine, and was faster than almost any of German piston-engined fighters. This model is armed with eight 12.7 mm machine guns and also could carry bombs and rockets which makes it an effective ground attacker. |
