Spitfire FR Mk.XIVЕ
James Prendergast was the Commander of 414 Squadron RCAF. He flew one of the last reconnaissance flights over the Normandy beaches before the D-Day invasion and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. The FR Mk.XIVe. is a late-war reconnaissance modification of Spitfire with a camera mounted on the left side of the fuselage and increased roll rate due to the shorter wings. It was able to reach top speed of over 435 mph and is armed with a couple of 20mm cannons and two 12.7mm machineguns. |
