The JAS39-5 is a pre-production variant of the Swedish Saab JAS 39 Gripen multirole fighter. The aircraft combines high speed, excellent maneuverability, and responsive handling thanks to its canard aerodynamic configuration. These characteristics allow it to perform confidently in close-range dogfights, while its modern missile armament enables it to effectively engage enemies at long distances.

The JAS39-5's arsenal includes RB 99 active radar-homing missiles, semi-active radar-homing missiles, and all-aspect infrared-guided missiles for close-range combat. For engaging ground and naval targets, the aircraft can carry laser-guided bombs, TV-guided missiles, and unguided ordnance. Additional protection is provided by underwing BOL pylons carrying 80 chaff and flare countermeasures. These pylons can also be used alongside air-to-air missiles.
