The K9 VIDAR is an export version of the South Korean self-propelled artillery K-9 Thunder, developed in the late 90s as a replacement for the aging self-propelled artillery K-55 (variant M109). At the end of November 2019, delivery began of the K-9A1 self-propelled artillery to Norway, where the vehicles were named VIDAR (Versatile InDirect ARTillery) - after the god of vengeance and silence from the Old Norse pantheon. It is able to reach a maximum speed of up to 67 km/h. The K9 VIDAR is armed with a 155 mm CN98 gun, and equipped with a 12.7 mm machine gun. The ammunition is represented by HE, HE-VT and smoke shells. Additionally, the self-propelled gun is equipped with a thermal imager and a laser rangefinder for the gunner and a night vision device for the driver and commander.
